For starters, it gives you an easy way to organize your favorites and build video playlists. ![]() YouTube videos arrive in that service's FLV format most others are saved using Real's proprietary new IVR format, which means you have to use RealPlayer to watch them-an annoying limitation. One click and RealPlayer downloads the video, which doesn't have to be playing or even remain on the screen. The installer also adds a Firefox and Internet Explorer extension that causes a Download Video button to appear when you mouse over an embedded clip. That sure beats the old methods of stealing all file associations outright or making you choose them manually (which you can still do). Although the early beta I tested impressed me, Real definitely has some bugs to iron out.ĭuring installation, RealPlayer gives you the useful option of making it the default player for only those media types that aren't already associated with other software. The bad news: Some of the better features, such as burning videos to DVD and transcoding them to other formats, require you to purchase RealPlayer Plus ($29.99). The good news: The program now offers one-click video downloads from sites such as YouTube, Yahoo! Music Videos, and Comedy Central.
